Caribbean Cruises

March 3rd, 2010

People work harder these days than ever before. If not physically harder then longer hours and we are entitled to a break from that once in a while. The majority of us go on holiday and we look forward to it months in advance and we plan for it even further ahead. Where do you like to go or what do you like to do? I personally like to go on a cruise and a Caribbean cruise is a good choice.

People think a cruise, specially a Caribbean cruise as being expensive, and cruise operators want to uphold that elite image, but I see the cruise as being an up-market all inclusive holiday. Probably, it is the original all inclusive holiday, because once you walk up and off that gang plank, everything aside from drinks is free. Everything and everything is first class hotel style too! We are not talking pizza and chips here, but five or six course meals and five or six times a day.

It is common knowledge, that if you go on a cruise you can expect to gain a pound or two a week (I put on five pounds on my last cruise), unless you do some exercise. What exercise? Cruise liners have swimming pools and gymnasiums! Not only one but several. Some even set aside a deck for running at certain times of the day. There really is no excuse for not exercising on a Caribbean cruise.

Caribbean cruise liners offer more sports facilities than just gymnastics too. In fact, except for horse riding, I think that most sports are catered for. Basketball, volleyball, swimming, clay pigeon shooting, fishing, bird watching … You name it. Caribbean cruise liners also have Internet connections, games machines and full office facilities. During the evenings there are first class shows, often two a night, movies in a cinema and a casino.

If you have never been on a Caribbean cruise, it is hard to explain the amount of luxury that is provided. It is more than a first class hotel. In a first class hotel, you pay first class prices for everything too, but on a Caribbean cruise liner, everything but drinks is free and even drinks are cheap because they are duty-free. The cruise liner will have a shop too where everything it sells is duty free!

Some Caribbean cruises are themed and it is worth remembering this fact. Also some times of the year, especially early February are foreseeable. I once naively went on a Caribbean cruise for a fortnight which spanned St Valentine’s day. I was a single man then and the other 1200 were amorous couples. There was only one single woman on the cruise and there was no rapport between us. I did not not enjoy that Caribbean cruise, because people took we under their wing, but it made me think about the time of year when I next booked up.

Caribbean cruises, especially the better ones, will fill up quickly, so this is one holiday that you really have to book well in advance. A year in advance is not too early. I like to book my Caribbean cruise a year in advance, but put my name down for any last minute cancellations, in case I can pick up a bargain.

Choosing The Perfect Internet For Your Business

March 3rd, 2010

I don’t think you need me to tell you that dial up is not the best way to go when looking for a internet connection for your company. Not only is dial up very frustrating for family usage, but for company usage it could end up costing you a lot of money because you couldn’t close the deal. In this article we will be reviewing some of the popular high speed internet’s so you know which one to choose.

1-Internet through cable

Do you remember when cable use to be the best way to get high speed internet? Then all the fancy stuff like DSL and satellite came out. But the comcast cable provider did some major improvements to their internet and because of that, cable is something that should be considered. When using a cable connection, you can get up to a 2.0 Mbps which is about 40 times faster than your normal dial up. Sure, this might not be as fast as the other high speed internet options (although it isn’t far behind) but if you want to save some money while using a fast internet, this is the way to go.

2-Using satellite for your internet

Satellite internet has really started to become popular within the past four years. The reason it has become so popular is because it is currently the fastest internet that is available. This is the only high speed internet service that offers fast upload speed. If you need to upload a lot, then this is no doubt the best way to go. If you are using the internet for just downloading then this may be a waste of money.

3-The popular DSL

If this is the first time you have ever heard about DSL, where have you been? DSL was the first high speed internet that came out that was affordable to the average person and continues to offer great prices. DSL has an insane download speed, but they did not put too much focus on their upload speed which means you will have trouble putting stuff on the internet.

If you are looking for a Business High Speed Internet then all you have to do is look at http://BusinessHighSpeedInternet.info to learn more about choosing the perfect internet.

How to Use Lighting to Stunning Effect.

March 3rd, 2010

When you are considering the interior design of a dwelling or room, illumination is almost certainly the most important factor of the changes to the interior decoration. After all, it is the factor that generates the tone of the room. You can create moods from intimacy to bleak clinicalism just by the strength of your light bulb or turning a dimmer control.

However, if you want to be sure that the effect of the lighting is the one you are looking for, it is important that you be acquainted with the four main kinds of lighting.

Ambient illumination: This is the general lighting for the whole room. In nearly all rooms it is the standard light in the centre of the ceiling be it a fluorescent tube or an incandescent bulb. It is recommended that you make use of one or more dimmers in order to have more flexibility in creating effects for every occasion.

Local lights: These lights are used to supplement or even temporarily take the place of the ambient illumination. Local lights are most commonly standard lamps, table and wall lights and are generally used in order to facilitate such activities as reading, cooking, and shaving. The concentration of the light is local and it has to be properly worked out so it won?t strain the eyes.

Accent lights Accent lights are sources of light for showing off decorative items, ordinarily placed so as to draw attention to an objet d?art . Quite literally to show it in its best light.

Natural light: This is the one we get free though skylights, windows and doors. This light is controllable for part of the day by shades, curtains, drapes, blinds or awnings, but obviously varies with the time of the day, the season and the weather. Some locations see huge variations in natural light according to the season, eg monsoon, snow, etc.

It is doubtless easiest, if you consider a house room by room. Commence by analyzing what the room is used for. Retirees will probably want to take advantage of the daytime natural light for hobbies and reading, while a working couple with school-age kids, will be more active in the evening, when additional illumination might be more essential. Write down what you do and where you do it. Do you have a favourite fireside chair for reading the paper, do you read the paper during daylight hours or after work? Be courageous in your selection of illumination, but also bear in mind that illumination can have a strong influence on our perception of dimensions, making a room look larger or smaller than it is in reality.

There are lots of ways to light a room but they all come from one of two perspectives: the illumination is either functional or artistic. Yes, they are both used to allow you to see more effortlessly, but highlighting the pages of a book or a shaving mirror is not quite the same as using a low light to highlight a statue of the Madonna in an alcove.

In a short synopsis, you could use the few lines below to give you preliminary ideas when you are considering changing a room?s illumination:

i] Place a standard lamp behind armchairs: they should be between three and five feet high. ii] Use an accent light to high or even low light a canvas. iii] Use an accent light to underline the contours of bookshelves. iv] The ambient light ought to be modifiable. v] Use local illumination to swathe the walls with a low light or glow (can be recessed into the floor).

Wedding Favours Your Guests Will Like

March 3rd, 2010

There are many presents that can be used as wedding favours, after all the point of wedding favours is to show your guests that you are grateful for them coming to your wedding and showing their support for your wedding. Therefore, you should really try to find wedding favors, that your guests will be keen on.

Naturally, the gift that most appeals to your guests, may not be one you would choose for yourself, but you are buying the wedding favours for your guests, not yourself. If you think about it, you should be able to come up with something that everyone will like and that you are pleased to give. In order to help you get the task done, we will offer you a few tips below.

Love spoons are a prevalent souvenir at Welsh and other Celtic weddings. A love spoon was a wooden spoon carved by a love sick man for the woman he cherished. She would then either take or reject the love spoon, although she was not bound by the acceptance of the spoon. Miniature copies are often used as wedding favours. They can be carved with dates and names and symbols of love such as a hearts, bells, vines, key holes, anchors and knots.

Wedding favours can also be suitable to eat. There are a lot of options available for couples who wish to give their guests some kind of edible favour. You can have many things personalized these days. Some firms specialize in personalized presents, which can also be given as wedding favours. Some examples of edible, personalized wedding favours might be: chocolate bars, mints, biscuits or gourmet chocolates. The box or wrapping could bear your photo or / and your names and the date.

Miniature wedding cakes are another idea for edible wedding favours. Miniature wedding cakes have a short shelf life so they will have to include a warning, which will in all probability be put on the wrapper automatically, but it is worth checking.

A half / quarter or small bottle of wine or other drink would also be quite easy to arrange as wine bottle labels can be bought in any home brew shop.

Picture frames are frequent wedding favors. You could give a picture frame and follow it up with a photo of the beneficiary of the frame enjoying your wedding party. This might be expensive and tricky to set up as you will have to keep records of who has been photographed and who has not. It would be terrible to miss someone out, would it not? You will probably also need a professional photographer or at least a dedicated amateur.

Wedding favours can be anything really, but I reckon that they are best if they are useful. We gave very atypical bottle-openers away at our wedding. They had a pattern of a couple getting married, our names and the date. They also had a magnet in them to collect the bottle top as it came off. I have seen dozens of our bottle-openers stuck on our friends’ fridges over the years and the wedding was three years ago.

Mardi Gras Cajun Style

March 3rd, 2010

Mardi Gras is a unique time of the year down in Cajun Country. Even if you don’t live down in New Orleans you can still rejoice in some of the fun and revelry associated with Mardi Gras by throwing a grand old meal worthy of King Rex himself.

The trick about bringing Mardi Gras to the Midwest or wherever you may be, is to always have the mindset that makes Mardi Gras such fun and an enjoyable event for people from all over the world. If that doesn’t work a bowl or two of gumbo topped off with some Mardi Gras music should do the trick quite nicely.

Honestly though, part of the appeal and intrigue of Mardi Gras and the city of New Orleans is the cuisine that has made this city almost as famous as its ability to party. If you are considering what to cook to bring the spirit of Mardi Gras into your home, try any of the traditional favorites. If ingredients prove hard to come by you might want to add a little rice, a little spice, and a lot of hot sauces to your favorite family meal.

Those who live in New Orleans often use rice to stretch the budget. Rice is filling and is cost effective. This makes rice a great basis of a meal for many of the families of New Orleans many of whom have been pretty poor traditionally.

Rice is used in all manner of dishes from gumbo to red beans and jambalaya and many dishes in between. It is probably the one staple of Cajun cuisine that you will find everywhere you go.

Otherwise there are wide variances in cookery according to cost and culture (although the more costly foods are typically considered Creole rather than Cajun. Kind of a city cousin – country cousin type relationship between the cuisines).

Spices are prevalent in these dishes for much the same reason that rice is. They have traditionally been an inexpensive method of seasoning food that would otherwise be quite insipid. Expect to find plenty of spices and some heat in most traditional Cajun dishes all over the city. Some restaurants that cater to tourists have slightly watered down versions of local favorites.

If you want to eat something with a little less kick, a po-boy or muffaletta might be what you are looking for. These sandwiches are more than a little deceiving in appearance because they are very filling. French fries are still a Cajun favorite, although we also have a popular dish called fried sweet potatoes.

You can find recipes for all of these online quite easily though you will probably have trouble finding the perfect bread for a po boy anywhere outside the Crescent City. There is a unique “chewiness” to the perfect po boy bread that may be copied in other places but not equaled anywhere in the country.

For the best finish to your Cajun cooking you should make a point of buying some chicory coffee. This is easily done via the Cafe du Monde website if your local coffee shop doesn’t have any. Historically, chicory was added to coffee and often used instead of coffee because it was much cheaper.

This meant it could make the more expensive coffee beans go further and yet deliver a similar taste and texture with that hint of chicory. It’s a rather unique flavor and for many people is synonymous with the city itself.

Unique Wedding Rings

March 2nd, 2010

The practice of giving and wearing a wedding ring dates back thousands of years. A wedding ring symbolizes faithfulness and love between two people and are given on the day of a couple joining forces. Before the time that the knowledge of how to work metal became widely known, people used such things as plants, grass and even hair to ‘tie the knot’, which is what I think a wedding ring stands for.

These days a typical wedding ring might be made from valuable metals such as gold, titanium, platinum or even white gold. Women’s wedding rings often hold a diamond, although sapphires are rapidly becoming more prevalent. Men’s wedding rings are often just a plain band of gold. There are many distinctive styles of wedding rings, but the most popular for men is definitely the plain gold band.

For those who want something a bit more flamboyant, there are plenty of examples on the market. A man might want a more grandiose wedding ring, because it is frequently the only piece of jewellery that a man wears. Some alternatives to the plain band of gold are the Celtic Knot and the Claddagh gold rings.

It is essential for men’s wedding rings to be made from a robust alloy of gold. Most men do manual labour of one sort or another, even if it is only gardening, so it is a lot to ask of a pure gold wedding ring to last thirty or forty years.

A 14 or 18 carat gold ring will probably do it, but a 22 carat ring would not. It would just wear away because it is too pure and consequently too soft. Platinum or titanium are much harder, although most people prefer gold.

In most countries tradition dictates that people wear their wedding ring on their left hand, although in a few countries such as Germany, Russia and Norway, people wear their wedding ring on the right hand.

Some couples would rather have a unique wedding ring and that is not so difficult to achieve as it might first appear to be. The easiest way to personalize your ring is to have an inscription like names and a date engraved on it.

Another way, would be to buy a precious stone separately and have the jeweller set it into the ring for you. The best option though is to find a jeweller you can trust and have him or her make up a pair of identical rings to your own design. I have done that and it is not a lot more expensive than a good ring.

Wearing matching wedding rings is a notable experience. People notice that your ring is ’something different’ and many people ask, where you got them from. It all goes to help make that special day unforgettable for ever.

Vacation Rental Homes, Are They A Good Idea?

March 2nd, 2010

Many people that go on vacation have a preference to rent a home in their destination rather than staying in a hotel. Most of these people do this because it gives them the freedom to cook their own food and eat out when they like without missing set meals that they have previously paid for.

It can be more tricky to find such a vacation rental than simply making a hotel reservation. However, most holiday makers say that the endeavor is worthwhile. There are a few items that you should check up on if you are not to be dissatisfied when you get there.

It is very handy if you have friends or family living in the destination locale and if you do have this advantage, you should use it, but all is far from lost if you do not. There are often agencies for these types of vacation rentals as many people who live in such locations rent their homes out in the peak season and they do this through those agencies.

There are also quite a few web sites specializing in home rentals for holiday purposes. Some of these Internet agencies just charge on behalf of the property owner and others can arrange swaps, which is a great, low-priced way to travel the world.

The surveys that these web sites carry out are typically quite comprehensive, containing such expected information as the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, but also such details as whether there is a phone, a car, bicycles or scooters on the premises, along with distance to the shops, main road, airport, train and bus stations.

However, if you have any questions still unanswered, you are usually encouraged to ask them directly to the property owner via the agency’s web site. It is a good idea to rent a vacation home through a rental agency for security purposes, because if a problem does arise then you have a mediator on hand. In these situations the agency would handle the whole affair, up to the point of criminal proceedings.

You may also like to ask about the age of the property, because often the day to day maintenance of the place is down to you while you are there, as are breakages, unless those things are covered by the owner’s insurance policy.

You should also find out whether you are allowed to use the home owner’s bedding, linen, and towels etc.. Often you just treat the house and its contents as your own, unles a cupboard or door is locked and you have not been given the key.

One last piece of advice is to get suitable directions. Places that you are not familiar will look very different in the dark than they do in the daylight, particularly if the property is off the beaten track.

Therefore, if you are expecting to arrive late or if there is a possibility that you might be held up, ask for photographs of key points taken in the twighlight. It will ensure that you get to your destination vacation home rental with no difficulties.

Busting The Rapid Weight Loss Myths

March 2nd, 2010

There is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to be slimmer just to have a sexier body. Many people have moulded their bodies to make them look more healthy and more desirable. However, there is no way to attain this new appearance in a day of two. The problem is that most people do not want to wait, they want it now.

This can lead to these people making rather rash and, it has top be said, rather silly decisions. They are not willing to wait and they are not willing to work for what they want. This is why so many people turn to rapid weight loss diets. Some ‘guru’ brings out a new fad diet and a good proportion of the ‘I want it now’ crowd jump on the band wagon. Only to be disappointed again within the year or less.

Speed diets or rapid weight loss diets tend to put out impressive advertising copy that is very hard to resist. However, all diets, no matter which one you choose, Weight Watchers, Atkins or fad diet, depend on overweight people making lifestyle changes in order for them to work permanently.

There is a very apposite saying: if you always do what you always did, then you will always get what you always got. That says it all. You can lose weight with all but the stupidest of diets, but if you go back to your old ways when you hit your target weight, you MUST slowly, but surely creep back to your old weight.

If you give your body more calories than it needs, it will store them for when it does need them. The problem is that that day never comes for too many people, because they never exert themselves. This is especially true of fad diets like the ‘cabbage water’ diet. Yes, you will lose weight on it, but you would lose weight by fasting whatever you did. For a while, and then you might get sick. For a diet to work, it has to be flexible and enjoyable enough for you to be able to stick with it for the rest of your life. Make no mistake, dieting is long-haul.

Many rapid weight loss programs actually only squeeze the water out of you. Just like a wet sponge. But a good dieter maintains his or her grip on that sponge, not letting it soak up water again. The problem with short term dieting, is that you let go of the sponge underwater.

This is why serial dieters first lose weight and are happy; then finish dieting, go back to their old weight and become depressed. In that state of depression they are suckers for the advertisers of the next latest craze diet. In other words, they are being manipulated and literally squeezed dry, but of their money too.

These silly rapid weight loss programs also include fat loss pills. They are not making you lose fat, well, maybe a tiny amount gets flushed out with all the excess water you are carrying. They are only diuretics under another name. How many pills would I sell if I called them diuretics? How many more would I sell if I called them miracle fat loss pills?

Type the word diuretic into a engine and find out more about them. They are all around you in mild healthy forms. A diuretic will essentially cause your body to lose more fluid than was in the diuretic. Tea is a diuretic, for example.

This list of these dopey dieting aids to rapid weight loss goes on and on, but someone must be buying them and you can bet your bottom dollar that it is the sad, depressed dieter who let go of the sponge.

Slimming soap! Slimming soap is being advertised as being a rare Eastern remedy for corpulence. Well, let me tell you, I live in the East and I have never seen it here. Asians are slim because they do a lot of physical work and do not come under the pressure to eat junk food that Westerners do, although that situation is changing rapidly too.

Magnetic weight loss earrings, I ask you! Even being inebriated without a present for your wife ten minutes before Christmas Day is not a good enough excuse to fall for this one, surely? The advertisers say that the secret of this set of earrings is that they are magnetic.

Well, if you believe this, why not get a pair of $1 children’s toy magnets or even a pair of fridge magnets and put one in each hip pocket? Two? Well, after all, you would not want to lose weight from only one side, would you? You would be lop sided.

Just remember, when you are looking for a rapid weight loss diet: there ain’t one ( that will work for life). If you are putting on weight, then your lifestyle is wrong and it is up to you alone to change it.

Owen Jones, the writer of this piece, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with how to lose weight online. If you have an interest in losing weight too, please go over to our website now at Why Can’t I Lose Weight?

Elk, The Interesting Deer!

March 2nd, 2010

Elk, also alluded to as Wapiti, is one of the biggest deer species in United States. The one deer species that is larger is the Moose in North America. Linked to the red deer in European countries, Elk is substantial game that can lead to exciting hunting expeditions.

You will find Elk living close to streams and wetlands and they usually are very protective of their territory in the course of rut. For the duration of rutting season, bucks will mark their territory and challenge other males to a fight so that they can attract females for reproduction.

The stronger buck is one which will acquire courting rights with the local female, and frequently the loser will retreat to be alone. Occasionally, two bucks fight to the death in these courting rituals. The truth is, bucks have also been known to lock antlers during sparring (antler wrestling) and starve to death as a result.

Each year the males will get rid of their antlers but will develop a new rack. Starting off in spring, the bulls grow a new rack as well as shed the old one over the wintertime months. Cultures from Japan see the elk as a highly spiritual animal and use their velvet along with antlers as old fashioned medicines.

Four species of elk remain in North America. They include Rock Mountain, Roosevelt (C. canadensis roosevelti), Tule (C. canadensis nannodes), Manitoben (C. canadensis manitobensis) Two species, Merriams’s (C. canadensis merriami) and Eastern Elk (C. canadensis canadensis) both have been classified as extinct for a century.

American Elk populations are heavier in the northwestern part of the United States but include smaller sized populations throughout the Appalachian region. Elk can be an invasive animal and may even take over an area with ideal habitat very quickly. Elk have been reintroduced in Appalachian areas in February, 2001 through the Smokey Mountain National Park Service, and have since spread into Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Virginia. Elk roam in larger population from Texas all the way into Canadian northwest. Elk migrate with the season and often stick to melting snow areas for the old exposed grass.

Some of the very best elk hunting is based in the Colorado area as well as the Rocky Mountains. You should definitely be sensible and also keep your eyes open, a mad elk isn’t no petite deer to play with. Having a rack as broad as your car a huge elk can inflict some serious damage on you if you get too close.

Speakers And Home Theater

March 1st, 2010

When most people are looking for a sound system, they usually go directly to the speakers. This is not necessarily wrong, but you must not stop there. The speakers are an important part of a sound system, but they are not the be all and end all.

It also essential to think about the player and the amplifier, because any sound system is only as good as its weakest constituent. Another important topic is the positioning of those speakers. It is just as important to position your speakers correctly as it is not to buy cheap speakers. There are also misconceptions about size. Bigger is not always better.

In the past, it was often the case that bigger meant better, but now often the reverse is often the case. Technological advancement has been concentrated on producing smaller speakers, that will take up less room in our smaller houses and smaller cars. Therefore, the smaller speakers are often the most technologically advanced.

If you are opting for surround sound, which is the best obtainable today, then you will also have to think carefully about placement. That is the positioning of the speakers. In a typical 5.1 surround sound home theater, you will have six speakers: five ordinary speakers and one sub-woofer.

These speakers would be set out one to the far right of the screen and one to the far left of it and one beneath it. The other two speakers would be at the rear of the audience, but not so far apart as the front speakers. The sub-woofer can go in the centre at the front or the back.

For smaller rooms, a 3.1 surround sound system might be adequate, that is you leave out the rear speakers. For a larger room, you may want either a 6.1 or 7.1 system. The 6.1 has the rear row of speakers matching the front row, while the 7.1 has an extra middle rear speaker.

It is better if you can buy all your speakers at the same time from the same manufacturer. Obviously, they all have to complement each other and the amplifier. The output from the amplifier has to match the capabilities of the speakers or you risk blowing them. That is, sending them more power than they can cope with, which causes too much vibration and permanent damage to the speaker’s internal components. Everyone has heard blown speakers, they sound awful.

If you can not afford to get all your speakers at the same time, buy a famous brand and a late-ish model, so that you can get more of them when you can afford to. Do not go for end of line speakers, because they are cheap, unless you can buy all the speakers that you will ever require for your system.

Buy your speakers online, if that gets you the best deal, but you really ought to hear speakers like the ones you are buying in action, before you make up your mind. You could also take your Internet price to the local dealers and ask them to match it. They might, you never know and it will save you carriage too.
