Why Get A Clear Computer Housing?

January 13th, 2010

What is a clear computer housing and what might it do for you? Well, before we commence talking about the see-through computer casing, allow me to inquire you something: what does your computer?s case signify to you? I could even ask: what does your computer mean to you? I inquire this for the reason that your reply will determine what you want for your computer and its housing or case.

Most individuals have always been happy enough with the simple, average light-grey housing that comes as bog-standard with the preponderance of computers. A few have never even had a second thought about it. But at the same time there are others who have thought about their computer?s case a lot and who would like something individual for their computer.

A few of these people were good at metalwork, others at woodwork and a few at glassware and there are a few truly incredible, futuristic, homemade housings out there. Especially among the gaming community. However, we are not all so able with our hands, but that does not mean that we have to be landed with the grey computer case.

The easiest choice, if you want a designer computer casing is to build one out of acrylic ? the sort of substance used to make most fish tanks. You can buy and easily cut sheets of acrylic for the sides and bond them all together with acrylic resin. That may appear complicated, but it certainly is not. Firstly you would have to analyze the architecture of a standard computer housing and then just reproduce it in acrylic. You could create a clear computer casing in a weekend.

Or you might buy a see-through computer casing kit. These kits come in flat-packs just like most kitchen furniture and can be effortlessly assembled according to the instructions with a screwdriver. No cutting, no measuring, just a little gentle screwing.

And I mean gentle, because the screws that come with the clear computer case packs are usually made of acrylic too and will break easily. It is the only element of the assembly process that calls for a advisory note, because you don?t want to have to drill out a broken screw, do you? That would only put a dampener on your fun.

So why would anyone want a clear computer housing? I suppose that there are many reasons. Some people may just want to be different and others may want to show that they can assemble or even create such a housing. However, the see-through computer casing also has aesthetic and functional advantages. At least the good ones do.

On the Aesthetic Front: hobbyists add neon lights and small LEDs that flash on and off or just glow eerily, possibly activated by some incident, like a hard drive coming to life. These displays are called ?themes? and are usually red or blue, but can be almost any imaginable colour. Then you can include coloured fans (or paint your existing ones). You already have at least one fan in your housing and probably two or three.

On the Practical Front: lots of people like to see what is happening inside their computer case and it is neither realistic nor safe to remove the cover all together. Moreover, creating your own see-through computer housing permits you to include more fans as over-heating is the major cause of hardware malfunction. The more fans the better.

A translucent computer housing would also permit you to observe whether a fan has failed, which would result in over-heating in a normal casing and guaranteed hardware malfunction, whereas you would see it happening through your see-through computer housing and change the fan before critical injury and loss of data could transpire.

Free Business Card Maker – Free Or False?

January 12th, 2010

Are you wondering what a free business card maker is and what the benefits of a free business card maker are? In this article we are going to talk a little more about this subject and you will be able to comprehend more.

There are so many blogs that will claim they are going to give you free business cards. The hitch is that you will have to pay money for software and then after you buy the software this will mean that you have the software and can use it free. I know this is confusing and I believe it is wrong.

If you are aware that this is what they are meaning by this phrase then this is okay. There are some card makers that are reasonably simple to use, you should be able to print them off for free after you have done the designing and they are ready for the printer.

I, myself can not design cards but with the free business card maker it is a great deal more easy for you to make cards since it has design elements and selections that you will be able to effortlessly. Yes, even a learner should be able to easily use this software to make their own business cards.

It is not my favorite option to make and print my own cards however. It is much more easy to to utilize a card design service on the net and then you can order as scores of of those cards are you want once you have them the way you like them. Not only do I have it a great deal easier since I can use the site to help me design the cards but I have help from the people on the website.

I hope that I have been able to show you a little bit more about the free business card maker in this article. You will be able to make a more educated decision when it comes to getting your own cards done now. Take the next step towards your advertising efforts.

Common Computer Viruses

January 7th, 2010

New computer viruses are being generated, exposed and fought every day. These computer viruses are created often just to annoy us and to inflict chaos in our computer systems. Hereunder, I have described ten viruses recently cited as being the most prevalent and being potentially able to cause the most harm. However, new viruses are being developed daily, so this list is by no means complete. The only thing you can do is remain alert, keep your anti-virus software updated, and keep aware of the current computer virus threats.

Virus: Trojan.Lodear: A Trojan (from Trojan Horse) that tries to download files from a remote source. It will introduce a .dll file into the EXPLORER.EXE process causing system instability.

Virus: W32.Beagle.CO@mm: A mass-mailing worm that lowers security settings. It can delete security-related registry sub keys and may prevent access to security-related websites.

Virus: Backdoor.Zagaban: A Trojan that permits the infected computer to be used as a covert proxy and which may degrade network performance.

Virus: W32/Netsky-P: A mass-mailing worm which propagates by emailing itself to addresses produced from files on the local drives.

Virus: W32/Mytob-GH: A mass-mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform. Messages sent by this worm will have the subject chosen randomly from a list including titles such as: Notice of account limitation, Email Account Suspension, Security measures, Members Support, Important Notification.

Virus: W32/Mytob-EX: A mass-mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan similar in nature to W32-Mytob-GH. W32/Mytob- EX runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor server which allows a remote hacker to gain access and control over your computer via IRC channels. This virus spreads by sending itself to email attachments gleaned from your email address book.

Virus: W32/Mytob-AS, Mytob-BE, Mytob-C, and Mytob-ER: This family of worm variations possesses similar characteristics in terms of what they are able to do. They are mass-mailing worms with backdoor functionality that can be manipulated through the Internet Relay Chat (IRC) network. Furthermore, they can spread themselves via email and by various operating system vulnerabilities such as the LSASS (MS04-011).

Virus: Zafi-D: A mass-mailing worm and a peer-to-peer worm which replicates itself to the Windows system folder with the filename Norton Update.exe. It can then generate a number of files in the Windows system folder with filenames made up of 8 random characters and a DLL extension. W32/Zafi-D replicates itself to folders with names containing words like ’share’, ‘upload’, or ‘music’ as ‘ICQ 2005a new!.exe’ or ‘winamp 5.7 new!.exe’. W32/Zafi-D will also show a fake error message box with the caption “CRC: 04F6Bh” and the text “Error in packed file!”.

Virus: W32/Netsky-D: A mass-mailing worm with IRC backdoor functionality which can also contaminate computers vulnerable to the LSASS (MS04-011) exploit.

Virus: W32/Zafi-B: A peer-to-peer (P2P) and email worm that will reproduce itself to the Windows system folder as a randomly named EXE file. This worm will test for the presence of an Internet connection by attempting to connect to google.com or microsoft.com. A bilingual, worm with an attached Hungarian political text message box which translates to ?We demand that the government accommodates the homeless, tightens up the penal code and VOTES FOR THE DEATH PENALTY to cut down the increasing crime. Computer Cases – Aesthetics And Utility

January 4th, 2010

Is your computer’s case or casing of any importance to you? You may be asking yourself the question: why should it be? The fact is that the computer case is important to the computer itself and also to some people.

Let’s begin from the computer’s point of view. One, if not the major causes of computer failure is excessive heat. Which is why, when computers were first used in factories and large offices, the specialized computer room was cut off from dust and was air conditioned, if not cooled specially. In those days, thirty-forty years ago, computer parts were very delicate and extremely costly.

Nowadays, they are very, very much cheaper but they are still subject to bother from heat. Extreme heat will warp the boards, especially the motherboard because it is large, inside the computer case. They are not built for these gymnastics and sooner or later the very thin connections soldered onto the surface of the board will break and inhibit the flow of electricity. It will die.

In order to inhibit this happening, manufacturers put fans inside the computer so as to increase the flow of air. There are normally at least two in a desktop computer case, one fitted in to the external casing and one directly on the CPU (the chip), which is often the hottest and most expensive single component. In laptops, where air circulation is even more limited, there may be three or four fans.

So, these fans boost the circulation of air within the case in an attempt to cool the chip’s environment down. Therefore, it also stands to reason that there must be sufficient space for that air to flow. If it was left up to the computer to design itself, computer cases would be larger and with more fans. A little like you might like to live in a larger house with air conditioning, if money was no problem.

Now from the human’s point of view. People agonize more about looks and fashion and about how much space the computer is taking up. Producers have to pay attention to what people would like if they want to sell their computers. People wanted less obtrusive computer cases, so manufacturers made half-size cases; people wanted less noisy computers, so manufacturers put fewer fans in the cases. And the result was unsurprising: computers housed in cases like these broke down more often and the only person who was happy about that was the producer.

There is also a trend towards beauty in computer cases. Acrylic, see-through cases are very trendy with gamers. Now games machines are some of the most powerful home computers on the market, because of the power needed to run the graphics at a life-like speed.

See-through cases promote the use of size and fans, because they are often themed, which means that the interior may have green, blue, yellow or red LED’s to light it up. So, for instance, when the DVD player kicks in a red LED comes on inside the case. Similarly with fans, which may also be painted. Some of these themed computer cases are perfect for the chips that reside in them and the people that own them

AV Software

January 2nd, 2010

If you access the Internet, you certainly need anti-virus software. It does not matter whether you do not use a computer. Whatever you use to get on line you must have anti-virus software. Although there are hundreds of malicious idiots producing viruses to attack those who access the Internet from a computer, there is an growing number who are targeting mobile phone users too.

It is harder to clear viruses from your mobile phone as well, because there are less vendors for the anti-virus software and mobile phone users are often less technologically knowledgeable than computer users, although the technique of clearing the virus is fairly analogous.

Let’s just use the example of using computers to go on line. If you go on line, your ant-virus software is your most important piece of software. It does not matter what you use the Internet for – transferring data back to base or reading emails from friends – you are subject to attack.

For instance, if you use the Internet only to communicate with your head office, a hacker could try to piggy-back your connection to gain access to the mainframe at head office and perhaps access financial or other personal data and if you just send to and receive emails from your friends and family, you are open to assault from malevolent fools around the globe.

If you use webmail such as that provided by Yahoo, Hotmail and MSN to name only the most popular, you will be protected from the most obvious attacks, but still not safe. If you obtain your email via an email client such as Outlook or Outlook Express, then you do not even have that small amount of security.

If you do not use email, but only surf the Internet for research or whatever, you are still not safe, because some websites and loaded with viruses, trojans and worms, waiting to unload them onto unwary surfers.

Therefore, whatever reason you surf the Internet for, you could do with some type of protection. Fortunately, anti-virus software for personal use is inexpensive and may even be free. Business users will normally get tax relief on their purchases.

However, be cautious with the free anti-virus software, because not all of it is effective enough. The exceptions that spring readily to mind are Avira and AVG. These are excellent items and have rightly achieved worldwide acclaim. Just Google the two names to get the download address.

The anti-virus software that costs something (typically $25-$50 per annum) invariably offer one to two months free trial before you buy and a reduction in price, if you pay for more than one year at a time. Names that fall into this class are Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton and Nod.

Once you have selected your software, the subsequent steps are the same for free and paid software. First install it and then configure it. If you are not sure how to do that do not be concerned, the default settings are fine for the overwhelming majority of users. The only choice you will get that it is vital you make correctly is to consent to automatic updates.

New viruses are being exposed or fixed every day and for your anti-virus software to be effective, you must allow it to bring itself up to date whenever it wants to.

Spyware, Adware and Antivirus

December 28th, 2009

Adware, spyware and anti-virus software share some similarities, one of which is that all three are major problems for computer users. Let’s differentiate between the three.

Spyware is software that does not necessarily harm your computer. What it does is build pathways whereby someone else apart from the computer owner can communicate from that computer. Normally spyware records the different kinds of web sites you visit and sends that information to web advertisers, who then later send you unsolicited emails and pop-ups.

Which is why spyware is unpopular and shunned. It is more intrusive than adware. Spyware has its own separate executable programs, which allow it to record your keystrokes, scan files on your hard disks and look at other applications that you use, including but not limited to chat programs, cookies and Web browser settings.

Spyware then sends the information that it had gathered to the spyware author. The author will then use this data for advertising and marketing purposes. They also sell the information to advertisers and other parties.

Adware, on the other hand, is a more legitimate type of software.. It is similar to spyware but adware is advertising spyware which is bundled into free software or a free program and is installed automatically once that particular program or software is loaded into your computer system.

Some types of adware, on the other hand, download advertising content when a particular application is being run. Some adware acts like spyware in that it tracks and reports user data to the program’s authors.

The signs of spyware infection include pop-up ads that seem to be unrelated to the site you are looking at. Sometimes spyware pop-ups are advertisements about adult contents. Furthermore, if you become aware of your computer slowing down, there is a big chance that spyware and its components have found their way into your operating system. If Windows desktop takes a long time to load, it is best to scan your computer for spyware infections.

Viruses, on the other hand, are a destructive kind of software. They were designed and created for one reason alone and that is to cause chaos on your computer. They may destroy whatever data they come in contact with, can initiate self replication and then infect as many components of the computer’s operating system or network as possible.

These days, a lot of anti-virus software also provides spyware and adware scanning and removal utilities. They then remove it as well as its components located in the system registry and other places on your computer. It is therefore, good practice to regularly update your anti-virus and anti-spyware scanner to ensure that your computer is protected from the thousands of spyware and viruses in the Internet. Beware of free add-ons or free anything really.

Adware could be spyware in disguise and could be just waiting to be deployed for its writers to gather your data. Learn how to set up a firewall and pop-up blocker in order to minimize the risk of computer infection and guarantee the security of all your computer files.
